Two eves from Odisha named for Asiad football camp

All India Football Federation today named 35 probables, including two from Odisha for a preparatory camp to be held at Mumbai from July 11 to August 25 for the Indian women’s team for the forthcoming Incheon Asian Games.

The Camp would be followed by an International Exposure Tour to China from August 25 to September 10 from where the squad would be advancing to Incheon for the Asian Games. The list, however, would later be cut down to chopped to 18 for the Asian Games.

This is the first time that an Indian Women’s Team will be participating in Asian Games. At present, the Indian women are ranked 11 at the AFC level. Head Coach Tarun Roy, who was an AIFF scout in the Senior Women’s National Championships held in Assam, expressed satisfaction about the `quality’ within the squad.

The probables included 11 from Manipur, eight from Railways, four from Delhi, two from Jharkhand and one each from West Bengal, Assam, Bihar, Sikkim, Karnataka, Pondicherry, Goa, Haryana. It is surprising that only two (Tikina Samal, Jabamani Soren) were selected from Odisha, which finished runners-up in the last National championship. However, five more from Railway players from Odisha were also included in the list
